2016 NSWPWC Endurance Nationals
Big weekend in Sydney for the 2016 NSWPWC Endurance Nationals held at the NSWPWC club on Botany Bay on 21 May 2016 with some great support from local dealers Yamaha’s Marina Bayside, Sydney Sea-Doo and Kawasaki’s Wollongong City Jetski all sponsoring classes with prize money.
Perfectly flat on the bay which is a rare enough event but sunshine too? Amazing – Sydney turned it on a treat.
As it was a National event all entries required previous race experience which unfortunately limited the entries and nipped in the bud a lot of online interest in the enduro format from new racers. Now the word is out I think the format is looking at some good growth in numbers going forward.
Showroom Stock
Eight entries in Showroom Stock and even with the Le Mans starts it was obvious it was the Kawi’s that started quickly and got off the line the best, immediately on the pace with Stuart Fell (Kaw310x) taking the Moto 1 win ahead of the Yamaha FZR of Cameron Martin and fellow Queenslander Mitch Casey in third (Yamaha FZS). Moto 2 and Mitch Casey surged to the front with Stuart Fell runner up and Mark Dallow (RXP300) in third. Moto 3 was the decider and Mitch Casey again found the front beating out Sam Barratt (RXP300) in second and Stuart Fell rounding out the top 3 (Kaw310x). Sam Barratt was the big improver in Showroom Stock with a 5th, 4th and then a 2nd in the final moto. So no doubt about the overall champ with Mitch Casey taking 2 wins to seal the deal and an Australian Endurance Title for the talented newcomer to jetsports racing competing in only his 4th race aboard his Yamaha FZS. Second overall went to Stuart Fell (Kaw310x) with Cameron Martin (YamFZR) in third just edging out Sam Barratt (RXP300).
Stock
Eleven entries in Stock and as expected Queenslander and current Australian Stock champ Mitch Wayt (YamFZR) blasted to the front and was never headed in all 3 motos in the Stock class and impressively was not far off the Open ski pace. Fellow Queenslander Brendan Boyd (RXP300) took second in all 3 motos with Canberra’s Chinni Rao (KAW310X) also keeping it real by scoring 3rd in all 3 motos. Melbourne’s Gary Zaradic (YamFX) was 4th in each moto keeping the pattern going. Stock saw the most drama with Mark Quitadamo only managing 2 laps before his RXP hit limp mode and forcing his retirement. Nick Pilgrim (RXP300) and Dam Wildin (Kaw310x) both DNF’d in Moto 2 with breakdowns while Corey Styles (RXP300) came a cropper in the Dolls Point hairpin in Moto 3 and withdrew. Overall then and another Australian Endurance Title to Mitch Wayt (YamFZR) with Brendan Boyd in second (RXP300) and Chinni Rao (Kaw310x) taking third. The only women competitor Eman Soliman (YamFZS) scored finishes in all heats giving her 8th overall.
Open
Only 5 entries in Open, Dan’s Jetpower team owner Dany Moujally and rider Paul Leven fron NSW and 3 Queenslanders including the current Aussie Open Endurance Champion Christian D’Agostin plus Brett Douglas and Greg Hack. Unfortunately it was all over pretty quickly for the local team when Paul Leven broke in Moto one while leading and Dany Moujally suffered a huge getoff resulting in a broken pelvis when he was unfortunate to connect with the ski during the crash. So it was Christian D’Agostin (YamFX) who wrapped up the Australian Open Endurance title for another year with three solid wins with Brett Douglas (Kaw310x) taking 3 seconds and Greg Hack (Kaw300x) finishing 2 motos before a DNS in heat 3 but still taking out third overall due to the NSW entries only competing 1 moto.
