Adelaide Ban: New zone ensures jet skis, boats stay at least 200m from beach
ALL boats and jet skis are now banned from going within 200m of the beach between Grange and the River Torrens, after the State Government approved a trial exclusion zone.
The zone comes into effect today after years of complaints from residents about some jet skis riders putting swimmers at risk by travelling too closely to them.
Boat and jet ski riders face a fine of between $105 and $705 if they come within the zone.
Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis said marine safety officers from his department
would work with Charles Sturt Council to patrol the area.
“Vessels with propellers pose a danger that is often not considered by swimmers, as people
don’t see the propellers and tend not to think too much about the risks,” Mr Koutsantonis said.
The council will be seeking feedback throughout the trial period which will run until March 31.
