A teenage tourist has died after a jet ski accident in far north Queensland.
Paramedics were called to Cairns Marlin Marina just after 9am to reports a 27-year-old woman had been involved in a watercraft incident.
Police said initial inquiries suggested the teen, who was on holidays from overseas, was riding a jet ski when she collided with a Sunlover Reef Cruises vessel that was moored at the Marina.
Witnesses pulled the female rider from the water and paramedics performed CPR, however she died on scene.
She had hired a jet ski from NQ Watersports moments before the fatal accident.
A spokesman for the company said everyone was shaken.
“We are just sorting everything out,” he said.
“I feel terrible for the family, it was a complete accident.
“Have to take care of the family now and get them a bit of counselling.”
A spokesman for Sunlover Reef Cruises said their priority was now the crew and team that were aboard the vessel when the crash happened.
“Our focus is on the crew and our team that witnessed the incident,” he said.
“It’s not been a good start for the day.”
Investigations were continuing.
