Jetski explodes on the Gold Coast
Two teenage boys were shot six foot into the air when the the jet-ski they were preparing to ride exploded on the Gold Coast.
The two boys were sitting on the jet-ski in a Broadbeach Waters canal just behind the Gold Coast Convention Centre when they turned it on and it burst in to flames on Wednesday afternoon.
“We just pressed the start button and got shot six foot in the air,” one of the boys told Channel Nine.
“You don’t expect that to happen.”
The jet-ski was a Christmas present and it was only the second time it had been taken out on the water.
People in the area described a “loud bang” followed by an “awful smell” and those nearby rushed to help the boys who suffered cuts and bruises.
One of them was taken to Gold Coast Hospital as a precaution.
The burnt shell of the jet-ski has been taken away so it can be examined and the cause of the explosion determined.
