Tom Carroll catches a wave (in all the wrong ways)

PILOTING a jetski while towing your mate into huge, gnarly waves is meant to be the easier part of tackling massive swells.

But someone forgot to tell Tom Carroll.

Sydney’s two-time world surfing champ was lucky to escape with just a bruised shin when he was caught by the lip of this monster wave off Western Australia.

He had just towed fellow big wave legend Ross Clarke-Jones into the wave, but instead of powering off the back after Clarke-Jones began his ride, Carroll, 49, went “over the falls”.

The wipeout destroyed the $25,000 jetski and a $15,000 3D camera mounted to it.

The pair were tow-surfing the infamous Cow Bombie near Gracetown in southwest WA last week during, filming for their upcoming movie Storm Surfers 3D.

The lucky escape was also captured by 3D video cameras and will be used in the movie Storm Surfers 3D, a follow up to their original Storm Surfers, Dangerous Banks.
